Cystic Fibrosis

A) Syptoms

  • Cough

  • wheezing

  • Failure to gain weight

  • Pain

  • Gas

  • Weight Loss

  • Fever

  • Diarrhea

  • Dehydration

  • Weakness

B) Cystic fibrosis is inherited when he or she inherits two mutated CFTR genes, one from each parent ( autosomal recessive pattern). Cystic fibrosis is not a sex-linked disorder and it is recessive.

C) The median age for cystic fibrosis is 33 and that is where the disease is evident.

D) Cystic fibrosis could be variably expressed when the person gets really sick. The enviornment doesn't affect this disease. Genes also affect this disorder and the affect would be that the men would be unable to have children because this disease would block the reproductive system. For women there is a bigger chance tto have a child, but women gets physically more sick than a male because the female respiratory system is more compact thant a male respiratory system.

E) This disorder can be detected before birth by a testing called genetic testing.

F) Yes parents of cystic fibrosis can get tested to see if they are carriers. They can get different tests like ultrasounds, Multiple Marker Screening, CVS (chrionic villus sampling), and amniocentesis.

G) With this disease, you cannot alter the enviornment because this disease is dealing with your reproductive and respiratory system which is inside the body.
